IHCC – DPUK
Remote Mentorship Program

The International Hundred K+ Cohorts Consortium (IHCC) has teamed up with the Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) to promote data access, skill-sharing, and knowledge transfer around large population datasets.

The program aims to foster a collaborative, supportive network for capacity building and the training of future researchers.

About the Program

Early career researchers, new researchers, and under-resourced researchers who wish to access and analyze large population and clinical cohorts are often ill-equipped to do so. Experience from managing the Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) remote access data repository for the last 6+ years has shown that although researchers can easily access DPUK’s 60+ datasets across 3.6m individuals within the DPUK Data Portal they lack progression in project output.

For this reason, DPUK offers the following online training programs:

  • Spring Academy – for researchers with little experience in large cohort longitudinal analysis.
  • Autumn Academy – for experienced researchers
  • Datathon Workshop – for collaborative teamwork on large cohort datasets
  • Specialist Academies – for advanced methods, e.g., Structural Equation Modelling (SEM)

Outcomes

Researchers attending these training Academies have access to cohort datasets for 12 weeks after each event and are offered mentoring to produce a publishable output. All mentoring and data access takes place remotely. Additional outcomes include:

  1. Mentoring experience for a researcher from an appropriate senior academic.
  2. Training in level-appropriate large cohort longitudinal data analytics.
  3. Experience being a PI on own project proposal.
  4. Site-visit experience.
  5. First author paper output.

Access DPUC Researcher Hub

The DPUK Researcher Hub brings together a collection of applications to support researchers. The Researcher Hub applications below have been developed to provide support from mentoring to data exploration. The aim of the Researcher Hub is to create a community of researchers that can help and support each other and help build the resource for future researchers.

About Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) and IHCC

Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) is a partnership between 29 public, private, and third-sector organizations, with core funding from the Medical Research Council. Based at Oxford University, DPUK brings together expertise from universities, charities, and pharmaceutical and technology companies to enable crucial breakthroughs in dementia research. The DPUK Data Portal is a world-class repository and analysis environment for dementia-optimized cohort data. The Data Portal is free to use and gives researchers anywhere in the world access to high-quality, multi-modal data from 60 population and clinical cohort studies, comprising records for over 3.5 million people.

International Hundred K+ Cohorts Consortium (IHCC) brings large cohorts together to encourage data sharing, improve efficiencies and maximize benefits in addressing scientific questions none could answer alone. IHCC currently consists of over 70 cohorts, totaling more than 50 million total participants, representing over 40 countries and regions. Through data sharing and collaborations with organizations like the Dementias Platform UK,  IHCC aims to revolutionize health science by informing the biological and genetic basis for disease and improving clinical care and population health.
